Prayers & Squares

A prayer quilt is a lap size quilt that is held together with knots. Each knot is tied by members of the congregation following the Holy Eucharist. As each knot is tied, a prayer is said silently for someone in need of healing. The quilt is a gift of love and prayer. It is a statement of our faith in God, and in our belief that He has the power to comfort strengthen and heal.

Anyone who believes in the power of prayer is welcome to participate in the ministry. You do not have to be a quilter or even know how to sew. We have workshops on the first Saturday of every month from 9:30 to 11:30am. Each workshop provides individual instruction on making different quilts. Quilters work at home to complete the quilts. Some members attach the threads and labels to the quilts and some provide support and fill in where they are needed.

The importance of the ministry is the love and prayers that go into the making of every quilt. A quilt, no matter how simple, is a gift from the heart. The gift is not about the quilt, the gift is about the prayers.

Quilts are intended for those in need of physical and spiritual healing. Quilts have been given to those with life threatening illness, for those facing surgery, or who have had accidents resulting in broken bones or disabilities. For someone who is in need of healing, all requests will be honored.

There have been many testimonials of the joy and peace brought through receiving a Prayer Quilt.

To request a prayer quilt,

1. If you know an individual that is ill or in need of healing, you may request a quilt for them.
2. Ask the recipient if they want a prayer quilt.
3. Explain the Prayer Quilt Ministry to them, if they don't know about it. Ask what prayers are needed.
4. Fill out the request form, located on the "Welcome Center". The form can be delivered to the church office.
5. Nancy Foran can answer any questions concerning the ministry or the quilts. The request forms can also be delivered to them.
6. The quilts will be made with love and prayers, and tied by the congregation with prayers for healing.
7. Quilts can be picked up after the second service, or at the church office during the following week.
8. The quilts will be picked up and delivered to the recipients by the person who requested the quilt.
9. When the quilts are delivered, prayers should be offered for healing, strength or what was requested by the recipient.

We welcome new members to join this important ministry, and become a witness to the awesome power of prayer. Contact: Nancy Foran (760) 966-2950
